Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital

Education Series "Girl Talk."

Late last summer we launched an education series for Women titled "Girl Talk." Each session includes a panel of female physicians. The physicians answer questions from attendees. Food and drink are served. The idea is to create a relaxed atmosphere in which women can feel free to ask any question. Topics covered so far include breast health and menopause. Attendance so far has exceeded our expectations, with 75 to 100+ women attending. Future sessions will focus on cancer prevention, heart disease, and other topics.

Shriners Children's West Region

There’s no doubt two years of pandemic-induced remote work and travel restrictions nearly extinguished the flames of teamwork, camaraderie and collaboration within the Shriners Children’s west region marketing and communications team. So when our organization gave the “all clear” to resume business travel, one of the first things we did to ignite the spark was convene a regional leadership retreat at our medical center in Pasadena, California. MarCom leaders from California, Hawaii, Oregon, Washington and Utah—including some who had never met face-to-face—flew in for three days of bonding, strategizing and planning. We laughed! We cried! We ate the most amazing tacos! And we pulled some strings for a backlot tour of Warner Bros. studios, including a visit to the famous “Friends” couch and a replica of the Central Perk coffee joint, where we posed for a team photo flashing our best west region “W” sign. Sure we solved some problems and tackled some projects together, but the big win was forging relationships and trust to carry the team forward.

St. James Parish Hospital

St. James Parish Hospital, a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital in rural Louisiana, implemented a new Electronic Health Record in 2021. For the first time, patients now have access to one patient portal for all hospital and clinic services. In September, the hospital offered walk-in screenings to the community and used this as an opportunity to increase portal adoption. Patients were told they would get results in the mail within a week or could access same-day results within their portal. The hospital’s IT Team set up a portal helpdesk near the exit of the screenings to help patients enroll for the first time, change passwords, download the portal app and navigate features on the portal. The poster near the helpdesk included a photo of the app and a QR code which allowed patients to self-enroll. Patients that were in a rush were given a flyer with the same information to make the process simple. The month of our screening event and portal help desk, we saw our largest increase in new portal enrollments of the entire fiscal year and portal page visits (usage) increased 50% indicating that people were not only on the portal, but using the many features available. This same month we also had a record number of online collections (portal bill pay) and our 2nd highest number of online appointments booked (portal direct booking), both metrics we work to grow.
