Rose Glenn | 2022 SHSMD Leadership Excellence Award Recipient
Rose Glenn is a strategic communications and marketing executive, with a long history of contributing to the profession and supporting the growth and development of strategy professionals. She has demonstrated this commitment in her role as a senior leader for teams in multiple health systems, and in her service as a board member for SHSMD, including Board President in 2019. More recently, Rose joined the faculty of has served as the Department of Communication & Media, College of Literature, Science and the Arts, at the University of Michigan where she instructs the next generation in health care communication strategy.
Rose currently works at Michigan Medicine as the Chief Marketing and Communications Officer where she is responsible for the development and execution of strategic initiatives that further brand equity, engage stakeholders and accelerate growth for the $6 billion health system and medical school.
One of Rose’s passions is mentoring, and she has actively participated in mentoring programs her entire career. She has been a mentor with SHSMD’s mentoring program since it first launched and has received exceptional feedback. Rose also mentored for organizations outside of healthcare, including Menttium, PRSA, Inforum Michigan (a women's professional development group) and the University of Michigan.
Rose has been involved in culture improvement for multiple health systems and is currently a member of Michigan Medicine’s Anti-Racism Oversight Committee. With her own department, she has a “Culture Squad” and DEI team that hosts quarterly lunch-and-learns that she actively participates in as a speaker and a learner. Prior to Michigan Medicine, Rose was the executive champion of the LGBTQ employee resource group at Henry Ford Health.

She is the model of calm, strategic thinking and the critical communications channels she developed with her team established Michigan Medicine as a trusted source of information on Covid-19 and vaccines at home and across the globe.
It is fact that Rose is the most effective communications and marketing leader that I’ve worked with in my career and that includes the Fortune 100 pharmaceutical company where I serve on the Board.
Rose demonstrates respect on a daily basis. From a staff perspective, treating people with dignity is part of her leadership style. She empathizes, counsels and coaches. This attitude extends to all those she works with--inside and outside the organization.
