Monte Carlo Modeling of Virtual Care in the Emergency Department
ED crowding and over-utilization for non-ED acuity illnesses causes: Long wait times for patients, low patient satisfaction, patients leaving ED without being seen ("LWBS"), increased costs seeing low acuity patients in high resource environment, etc. Virtual Care Integrated into ED is a promising solution. The project goal was to create a Monte Carlo simulation to predict the operational and economic impact of introducing one of 4 virtual care pathways into an ED. Monte Carlo simulation involves recreating an environment of interest in a computer program capable of analyzing the impact of changes to that environment in a risk free manner
