NCH Takes Bariatric Teen Info Sessions Online

The adolescent bariatric surgery program at Nationwide Children’s Hospital identified a bottleneck. Inconvenient in-person information sessions limited the number of potential surgical patients attending. A key step in the surgical process, the information session educates potential patients and their families about surgical options. It also helps qualify a teen as a potential candidate. Finally, insurance providers require participation in an information session before covering these surgeries. By adding an online option, our team was able to solve an operational inefficiency while simultaneously increasing the program’s patient volumes and expanding its geographic reach.
